Microstructure, Mechanical, Corrosion, and Ignition Properties of WE43 Alloy Prepared by Different Processes

This paper deals with the effect of microstructure condition on ignition temperature, mechanical and corrosion properties commercial WE43 alloy prepared by various processing techniques including conventional casting, extrusion, powder metallurgy methods such as spark plasma sintering. For different technique, differences in microstructures were observed, grain sizes, intermetallic phases, amount alloying elements solid solutions, or specific structural elements. Mechanical improved especially refinement. Precipitation from oversaturated solutions led to further improvement properties, while resistance was just slightly decreased due fine homogeneously distributed precipitates Mg41Nd5. The obtained results indicate huge based metallurgical state microstructure. An at a higher concentration proper (Y, Nd, Gd, Dy) solution absence eutectic phases Thermally stable had minor resulting temperature.
